Recycle Your Rechargeable Batteries! It’s Easy.

The Rechargeable Battery and Cell Phone Recycling Program has Come to Oahu!

RBRC (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation) a nonprofit, public service organization founded by the rechargeable power industry has introduced the Charge Up To Recycle! Program to Oahu.

Stores participating in the inauguration of this national program on Oahu are Radio Shack and Home Depot. Look for the RBRC recycling boxes in these stores.

Types of rechargeable batteries that can be recycled in the program are:

  • Ni-Cd (Nickel Cadmium)
  • Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride)
  • Li-ion (Lithium Ion)
  • Pb (Small Sealed Lead Acid)
  • All types of cell phones

These batteries can be found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders and other portable electronic equipment.

The participating retailers will collect your spent rechargeable battery packs and have them shipped to a recycling facility on the mainland. The recovered materials will be used to make new batteries and stainless steel products.

For more information on rechargeable battery recycling call the City Recycling Office 768-3200 or visit www.call2recycle.org.
